Murphy's office and persistence made him important. Isaac Murphy was elected for the unionist platform and voted against seceding from the union. He then became the provisional governor of Arkansas(Dougan). Murphy had a hard and long journey but he was able to help Arkansas become slave free. Murphy was elected for the unionist platform. Murphy voted against seceding from the union along with five others(Dougan).Murphy stood firm with his voted as the others caved(Isaac Murphy). He did not sign the new constitution for Arkansas that was made.Due to Murphys vote not to secede he had threats for his life. When the union started to reconstruct the state of Arkansas Murphy was named the provisional Governor of Arkansas until the next election(Dougan). After the next election Murphy was to work a little longer and retire. After the election Murphy returned to his home in Huntsville.
