Before becoming one of the best presidents known to history, Abraham Lincoln had a regular childhood. Originally, Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky on February 12th, 1809. Lincoln had little education growing up. However, when he was not working for his father on his farm, he was constantly reading. One of Lincoln’s friends called him a “manic” for examining books late at night. Even though he had little education, Abraham Lincoln was very intelligent. He attained his knowledge on his family farm. From learning about his family’s business, which was a general store, and splitting wood for their farm, Abraham Lincoln learned great skills. They did not want a president who was anti-slavery. The Civil War was not entirely caused by Lincoln’s election, but the election was one of the primary reasons the war broke out the following year. Abraham Lincoln thought it was necessary to fight rather than let the southern states secede from the union. He thought it was important to preserve the Union. After North Carolina secedes from the union, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas also leave the Union. He managed to settle the anti-slavery argument that had been happening for years. He influenced the minds of the American people to make them believe that slavery was wrong and unnecessary. Without having this great leadership of our sixteenth President, the country might not have come together. He made the American people come together and build the nation together. There were supporters would disagreed with Lincoln, but that did not stop him. His law career help build his reputation in order to become one the best Presidents the United States has ever seen.
