IP Subnet Design Project

Executive Summary The acronym subnet refers to sub - networking. This is the process of logically dividing an IP network into various divisions or sections within a network. Therefore, sub-netting is the technique and practice of dividing a network into two or more logical networks (Narten, Nordmark, Simpson & Soliman 2007). Within a subnet, all computers connected to it are identifiable by their almost identical IP addresses. The use of IP addresses is in order to identify uniquely computers in a subnet by the use of a router or network IP prefix followed by a host or rest field identifier. This then results in the IP network address prefix, and the remainder of the address remains as the host identifier. These two then form the addresses that will be used in the IP addresses used in the sub network (Narten et al., 2007).
Coming Up With Network Prefix Normally, the composition of an IPv4 network mask is 32 bits. This is in binary form: a sequence of ones and a block of zeros. The block of zeros designates that IP address part as the host identifier. The mathematical operation that is used for calculating the IP network prefix is as said earlier the bitwise AND the operation. The result of the mathematical operation results in the network prefix, as well as the host identifier (Singh et al., 2010).
The Sub Networks One can construct the CBCS network to contain four main sub networks. These sub networks are preferably based on the various departments: Human resource, Research and Development, Sales, and Finance. Based on the departments, subnets can be made for each one of them (Narten et al., 2007). In terms of IP addressing, the IP addressing that would be ideal would be the DHCP. This way, there will be no static IP addresses in the sub networks, as well as in the CBCS network. Such an action will serve to reduce overhead in terms of network management. This is because there will be no need for network administrators to work on the different static IP addresses as and when any network changes are required within any network
