Throughout the movie, the characters are able to show scenes away from the actual storyline that elaborate on what is happening. In the movie production, we are able to see the little girl and her grandmother inside of the wolf’s stomach. This is a scene that was not in the stage production, because it couldn’t be. This scene elaborated on that part of the movie and showed another point of view. Another time the movie provided a better background was in the beginning, when the curse was made. In the stage production, the witch tells the baker and his wife the story of the curse. In the movie production, they were able to use a flashback, and actually filmed the scene that took place when the curse was cast upon them. This helped the background of the curse was better understood because it was elaborated upon and visually seen. One of the biggest differences in the two production is the parts with the princes and the princesses. First, Rapunzel does not die in the movie, like she does in the stage production. Second, in the stage production, the two princes are portrayed as cheating, dishonorable men who go on to find other princesses, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. These actions do not occur in the movie, although one prince has a “moment” with the baker’s wife, the other stays loyal to Rapunzel. While the two productions are very similar, there are a few differences that set them apart. Although the original musical is limited by certain factors, it’s still a very entertaining production. The movie version, however, stands apart from the original with it’s edited and added effects, as well as the realistic events and background information. Overall, Into the Woods is a must
