Interpersonal Communication Reflection

On the other side, the skills that appeared to be more difficult to me was staying on top of everything my client was expressing and moving from one question to another in a peaceful manner. After watching the video I realized how I tended to jump from one topic to the next topic in which if I had the opportunity of redoing the assignment I would definitely stay on a single topic in order to give depth to the conversation and move to the next one until I feel that I have understood correctly everything that my client is trying to express and how she feels about a certain idea. I think that jumping around on topic was mainly because I was nervous about not being able to cover all the areas of the intake form guideline. Even though I was trying my hardest to stay focus on what Mikayla was trying to express, I felt like my head …show more content…
On the other side, after watching the video I realized that my posture at the beginning looked really uncomfortable but as the conversation kept going I was able to sit with an open posture and felt more relaxed. Also, I was really tired that day because I had two exams in the morning and then worked for 4 hours. Although I think you cannot really tell how I tired I was, probably engaging in the conversation would have been easier and I would have been more interested in knowing about my client and how she felt in certain situations. Also, I remember how at the beginning I was really nervous about taping for 45 minutes, but after completing the assignment I realized how 45 minutes go really quick when you are interested in what the conversation is about and learning about the other person. I think that it is important to be open mind when it comes to working with someone and instead of feeling that you are doing this assignment because of a grade, it is important to show that you care and appreciate learning about the other person. Thankfully, it was really easy for me to open myself with my partner and have a meaningful conversation

A few times throughout the video I was fidgeting in my chair and moving my head in different positions. I do not want my client to feel as if my fidgeting is an indicator that I am bored with the session or that I am eager to end the session. Another thing I would like to work on is being more concise in my reflections, inquiries, and summaries. Many times throughout the session I was nervous and began to ramble. I could have effectively gotten my point across without the added fillers or continuation of a sentence.…

The first few weeks of the semester really made me realize how terrible of a communicator, I am; in a communication class perspective. Throughout my week, I would write in my Interpersonal Communication Journal about all of the different types of conversations I came across. Not one conversation was the same. They were all about different topics. Each journal entry I would write, however, had all different aspects to them.…

I performed the history on the patient as the physical was performing an ultrasound on the patient and doing other various exercises. This gave me a limited amount of time with the patient. It took me approximately 20 minutes to complete the history. I felt like this time limit helped me to ask the right questions in a more efficient, but focused manner. If I didn't have a time limit I felt like the patient history would have extended too long, resulting in less time the physical therapist had with the patient.…

I have focused this reflection assignment on an issue I was faced with during my third year placement in an acute hospital on a surgical ward. I felt very uneasy and awkward throughout the entire experience. I have focused on one issue that stood out the most for me and discussed this in detail. The issue was that my communication skills were ineffective due inexperience. I had not dealt with a patient experiencing a miscarriage until this placement which made me feel unprepared.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…

I took two classes for the summer of 2016, but the Interpersonal Communication class had me worried the most. I had a training with the army, and that required me to absence from school for two weeks. Unlike my other class, I didn’t have a chance to work ahead of the class with the instructor for the two weeks that I would be missing. Therefore, I was worried that I wouldn’t catch up with my classmates and end up failing the class. However, Ms. Anna was generous and extended the assignment due date for me; she even gave me an extra-credit assignment to replace the credits that I missed during my two weeks in training.…

On October 21, I recorded a 25-minute session with Sarah Alford. We spent the session brainstorming, discussing ways Sarah could research her topic, and planning how Sarah could develop her paper in the most efficient way. By the end of the session, Sarah wrote down a tentative plan to complete the first draft two weeks from now. After I watched the video to review my performance, the video revealed that I have improved in keeping eye contact with the consultant, letting the consultant do most of the talking, and asking appropriate questions to get the consultant thinking; at the same time, the video showed I still have improvements to make with body language and tone of voice. The first question I asked Sarah was, “What would you like…

Expression and emotional communication is going to be a large part during my course project presentation. Music is not fulfilling its maximum potential unless there is emotional communication through expression. Early during the course project, expression was not of major importance to me. I thought all I needed to do was learn the notes on the page and then repeat those same notes during a performance. Once we covered the expression and interpretation chapter in class, however, I learned of the importance that expression and interpretation can have in music.…

From the beginning I struggled with many things when it came to my overall communication skills. Speaking publicly was not something I had experience with so I didn’t know what to do with my hands for starters. I would feel a sense of uncomfort when talking to an audience. My instant reaction to this was to either play with my hands or keep them glued by my side. This was the first challenge that I faced over the duration of the class, but it certainly wasn’t the last.…
