A relationship may have been broken for along time, they must come to consensus that there family will be torn apart and have to live a new life when divorce or separation happens. The couple can force love upon them, not have true love they are just holding on for their children. “You have never actually been in love with me, you have only loved the thought of being in love with me.” Perhaps this was Ibsen expressing Nora and Torvald's relationship, how Nora was only in it for herself and she did not truly love her family it was just the thought of having someone to love.
