Election’s biggest goal is to inform Americans of potential candidates for presidency and arise public opinions. It gives Americans Citizens a chance to participate in the government by allowing citizens to vote for candidates that would best represent their ideas and addresses their concerns about the country and the system (pg 491). Citizens for the most part don’t keep up with politics so elections help keep Americans informed of current world events. Elections right now are currently gathering interest throughout the nation with some radical candidates but at the same time it allows the young adults of America to start forming political views and connections to political parties. Candidates are always running elections cautiously and seeking public approval in order for election or re-election in their positions. The last few …show more content…
Elections are important and everyone has a right to vote. However there have been practices that have been attempting to stop people from voting such as qualifications on race, property ownership, religion, and so forth (pg 493). Elections now have open up the voting pool to any American citizen with minor acceptations. Before many qualifications were required to vote in elections and as year gone by, people have fought courageously for right of representation in elections. Elections have helped people fight for their right, to go against the repressive rule that only adult white males with property were able to vote. “ The further electoral rights are extended, the greater is the need for extending them”(pg 493 Alexis de Tocqueville). This quote is right about electoral vote, that only more people are open to voting due to want of representation during elections.
