Students enjoy being immersed in the story, where it pertains to them. Students hold on to new information when they envision how it affects them. Asking questions also increases student engagement. Questions will help them acquire critical thinking skills and therefore keep them engaged. Teaching the subject in more than one way also aids in student engagement. Each student utilizes a different learning style that helps him/her learn. For example, one student learns best by hearing, so a lecture will help him/her to retain the information. In other words, teach students to adhere to moral values such as honesty, reliability, loyalty, consistency, courage, and social responsibility. As a future educator, I realize that the students that I teach will become future leaders, compelling me to prepare them for their upcoming roles. An authentic, honest, and fair teacher promotes integrity in the classroom. For students to learn integrity they need to see role models that execute the right and responsible actions. I must promote high expectations about integrity in my classroom, by rewarding honest and responsible students who work hard, while providing consequences to those who decided to cheat. I expect my students to understand that a person will proceed further in life if they are honest and authentic. Honesty, respect, trustworthiness, and respect are core values that I will integrate into my lessons, therefore giving students more opportunities to learn about integrity.
