Important to realize, Title IX is a wondrous step forward for our nation, but it is severely flawed. There are several modifications that needed in order to reflect our ever changing society. It feels as though it is not a result of Title IX but rather due to the crudely implemented ways that people still discriminate in the present day. Regarding what improve can be made, there are several examples of changes that are needed in order for Title IX to reflect our society. An example being the fact that professional women’s sports in our country should also receive the same benefits and possibly reward those who attempt to market these teams into the mainstream as several of these sports are underrepresented in our society.…
In the article titled “Face-Off on the playing Field,” Judith B. Stamper explorers the issue of female athletes competing on traditional boys’ sports teams. First, stamper explains how opponents argue that girls are not aggressive enough. They say that playing contact sports like football and wrestling put girls at risk of serious physical harm. The author also reports that some male athletes are uncomfortable having physical contact with girls. Some boys feel that it is wrong or ungentlemanly to be aggressive toward girls.…
What impact would limiting women's access to birth control have on Title IX? -The impact that limiting the access for birth control for women would be gender discrimination and would go against everything that Title IX is meant for. 2. Name three steps that athletic directors could take to hire and retain female coaches for all women's teams in the future. How will those steps differ from the way male coaches are hired today?…
Paying just football or basketball players rectifies Title IX, which bars discrimination by gender. It is sought to end in expensive ligations if female athletes aren’t treated the…
First, Title IX encompasses so many components as it relates to equal opportunities in education. It is most well-known for the impact it has had on athletics, however this is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to the impact on athletics, Title IX also ensures equal access for both enrollment and hiring. Last but certainly not least it prohibits sex based discrimination and…
While touring many different colleges, Brown had a memorable experience at University of Richmond. Brown requested a meeting with a woman athletic director but was not allowed to do such thing. Cynthia Brown had actually met up with the athletic director the only way they could, the women's bathroom. In the bathroom the athletic director explained that men athletes were still being treated in a higher manner than women athletes. Of course, Title IX might have been passed in law, but most schools do not enforce it.…
This afternoons LSU game is extremely important. If you have access to ESPN you need to watch it. Because of one player and one player only. He's an early heisman favorite. The Running back phenomenon **.…
The topic of head injuries is one of the most controversial topics in the sports field. The repercussions that occur because of concussions lead some people to believe that a player that acquires a concussion should have to sit out until the injury fully heals. This argument is fully supported by scientific and physical evidence that has been obtained from real life players with concussions. Going back directly into play after getting a concussion is exceedingly dangerous seeing as an injury becomes more severe after obtaining a second injury, second injuries increase the chance of permanent damage significantly, and memory loss is more prominent if the player has a history of concussions.…
Women may have been discouraged along the way, but we never gave up. Women are fighters. As a female athlete, I will always be grateful to Title IX. I would not be able to participate in high school athletics if Title IX was not passed. Women would still be overlooked, still be told to have two roles in life (which was to clean and take care of children) and still be stuck in a hole.…
Public schools fund men’s sports and activities more than they do women’s sports and activities even after they passed Title Ⅸ. The article "Gender Discrimination - Discrimination In Education: Participation In Athletic Programs. " argues "Title IX has prompted much litigation by female college athletes, who claim that they are not provided with the same benefits, treatment, services, and opportunities as their male counterparts". Some schools still discriminate against women athletes, but before anyone can do anything about it the women have to provide evidence that states the school has failed to abide by Title Ⅸ guidelines. Before women could gain their rights, they had to prove to everyone that women were equal to men.…
Title IX requires, “the institution to show a history and continuing practice of program expansion which is demonstrably responsive to the developing interests and abilities of the members of that sex” (Office of Civil Rights 49). While expansion for a gender specific activity that is under represented could potentially be profitable toward the university, expansion in general for many universities could be partially impossible due to the area in which the institution is located. For example, if the university had an athletics team which had no competition in the area and could not supply the demand to create a specific activity to an underrepresented gender, the university itself would not be able to comply Title IX, putting the university in a noncompliance dispute with the Title IX law. In the case of a universities inability to comply, the three prongs of Title IX become a hindrance to obtaining equality rather than legitimately enforcing equality throughout the institution. By enforcing equality through a step process rather than qualifying in one of three test, an institution’s students, male and female, would benefit in the long run whether the equality is within sports or academics, and would also enable the university to set up a fund or fundraise for the…
It isn’t fair to athletes tto compete with other colleges who chose to not follow the rules. Recently, individuals have questioned if Title IX is still effective. Title IX should remain an active law because men and women do not have the same opportunities in college athletics. Female participation and equality for financial funding, and having equal opportunities between sexes are just a few of the areas that Title IX focuses…
Women were allowed to first play sports in high school in 1971 when Title IX was first passed. Title IX made it possible for women to become doctors, lawyers and college and high school athletes. These are some rules that have been made by Title IX: If there is no girls’ team, then the girl must be allowed to try out for the boys’ team. The school can say a boy or girl cannot play football as…
Sports have always been a man’s game. From the start, sports had been just like anything else at the time that was not ladylike. Sports were a man’s thing to do like going to war or working. Sports were violent, showing no vulnerability whatsoever. Sports never reflected what women were supposed to do like being a wife, cook for the family, clean the house, giving birth.…
Schools even with the passing of Title IX have found ways to sneak around the rules and still have gender inequality. Many females who try to participate in male dominate sports are often bullied and treated badly. Along with men who try to participate in female dominate sports. Women need to be treated as equals to men. Men are also a small focus point for gender inequality.…
