The Impact of the Digital Age of Social Media Social Media has become increasingly prevalent in today’s society. The technological revolution has taken over our lives and it is incorporated in everything that we do. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and countless other Social Media outlets are becoming more and more popular all around the world. Social Media has changed the way we communicate and interact with people around us. Social Media allows users to share and exchange an enormous amount of news and data from all over the world. Business leaders have begun to target people based on their personality. In fact, in the article, “The Relationship Between Personality Traits and Social Media Use”, authors Nihan Ozguven, and Burcu Mucan found that, “Conscientiousness, openness to experience, and life satisfaction were found to be significant predictors of the amount of Social Media use, as were levels of income and education.” “Businesses should match the personality traits of their target audiences with Social Media users in order to develop more effective communication materials.” Despite some of the benefits, Social Media can also have a deeply negative effect on people. Social Media has become a breeding ground for cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking, as well as identity theft and Catfishing.
