Igbo Civilized Society

In the Igo society their culture is much different from others per say civilized society but, most believe that the Igbo society is civilized. They are civilized because their culture and tribe has a strong justice system, as well as having a good home/family life. They social order also making them civilized.

Igbo cultures has many different types of relationships, home lives, and gender roles. But in their tribe all the people involved handle and treat each other with respect making it a stable and reasonable environment. This is why their society is civilized. The also have some type of justice sytem. This justice system includes the elders and the Evil Forest, these are the ones who decide what is right from wrong as well as the punishment that is give. In Things Fall Apart the husband was abusing his wife ad to bring justice to that situation the Evil Forest came to talk to him. They said “ We have heard both sides of the case, said Evil Forest. Our duty is not to blame this man or to praise that, but to settle the dispute” ( Achebe,1994). The Evil Forest appearing and trying to defuse the situation, which is allowing the tribe to have some type of justice system. Another reason the tribe is civilized is because of their gender role. Men dominate but the women take care of the kids and cook a well as clean. It states “And so he was always happy when he heard him grumbling about women. That showed that in time he would be able to control his women-folk. No matter how prosperous a man was, if he was unable to rule his women and his children he was not really a man”(Achebe,1994). This is showing that in their culture and tribe men are the providers and they dominate this also means that they have social order, if the men do not know how to handle they are not considered a
