Neat People Vs Sloppy People Essay

I didn’t even want to take this class. My grandfather looked at me and said, “Don’t you already know how to speak English?” All I could do was roll my eyes because I agreed. I already have spell check on nearly every device or application I use. I don’t plan on writing for a career. I am a Biology major for heaven sake. So how did this class go from not even wanted, to making me switch my major? It was a process with several parts that resulted the realization that I never even spoke about wanting to work in the medical field in the first place. The first two essays in this class were so broad, but so narrow. Obesity and income inequality. Two things that I have seen my whole life. I grew up with an overweight Nana, and a single mother that …show more content…
“Neat People vs. Sloppy People” by Britt. The subject matter in this essay slapped me upside the head! My best friend Val makes quite a bit of money, and she is one hell of a neat person. She throws out toys as her sons grow out of them. She makes sure the mail gets gone through and thrown away daily. She is everything that Britt describes about neat people. “They have cavalier attitudes very informal and offhand toward possessions, including family heirlooms. Everything is just another dust-catcher to them.” While I am the opposite, someday is easily my métier. Britt’s words resonated with …show more content…
You must save yourself before you save others. I am not a selfish person with anything other than my time. Wasting my time is a sin. I can have a conversation about anything. I am happy to share viewpoints, or to oppose you with great vigor on any subject. However, if you are willing to take a block of my time to discuss a subject that I am not interested in, or you are less than informed about, then we start to have a problem. With that said science went from something I am educated about to something I am not longer interested in. There is much more conversation to be had about business and marketing, than science for me. I can’t wait to start the next semester with my new views and interests. Thank you, Professor, for you have changed my future. I have always known that words are powerful, but the ones you made me read came at the right time. To those who are force to read this, I can only tell you that I hope you put yourself

I knew Red Lobster was a bad option. I wanted to go to Outback Steakhouse, but mom had her way, even on MY high school graduation. I was stuck, sitting in the booth, waitress staring at me for 15, 16, 17 seconds now. Sitting in my cap and gown, she asked again – “where are you going to college?” I’d prefer the Bloomin’ Onion to this any day of the week.…

Initially, I was under the impression that this class was going to be a joke. I had lived in the South for 21 years and thought I already knew everything about the South. After reading Dr. Eckard’s syllabus, I knew this was not going to be the case. From religion to southern dialect, this class presented the opportunity to learn more about the South that I had been exposed too. My three favorite posts this year was the discussion of family and gender, religion in the South, and The Evening Hour.…

Eighner restrains himself from collecting things he has no use for; a dumpster diver must learn to control themselves and distinguish between beneficial items and junk. On the idea of materialism, Eighner, at the very end of his essay, takes a hit at the wealthy, comparing himself to someone who is fortunate enough to be in the state of economic well-being: both Eighner and this person know, when it comes to things, there is plenty more where that came from (151). Eighner need never worry about finding something for survival, as the wealthy need never worry about obtaining what they desire. He concludes his essay with a rather stunning and ironic sentence, revealing that while he does not feel sorry for himself, he feels sorry for the well-off: “I feel sorry for them” (151). Eighner takes pity on those who are, perhaps, empty on the inside; those who only value materialistic…

It is painfully obvious that FlexMed has had an impact on my educational plan in college. At first, I had intentions of studying History and Computer Science. Now, I am a declared Spanish major and am declaring a major in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. The only reason this has been possible is the flexibility afforded by FlexMed. It began when my five best friends from my dorm hall decided that they wanted to live together off-campus sophomore year.…

The Sanctuary of School The essay I chose to write was over the short article of “The Sanctuary of School” by Lynda Barry. In this story it talks about the author Lynda Barry’s experience with the school from a young age. She talks about growing up in a home with her mom and her dad having money issues, relatives that kept moving in, her brother and her sleeping on the couch, and the constant fighting going on. She explains how she didn’t feel safe at home so she talks about school being a safe haven for her, and how lucky she was that she had Mrs. LeSane and Mr. Gunderson.…

Obesity refers to a state in which an individual has accumulated excess fats in his or her body tissues to the extent that it might impose adverse health effects to him or her. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention use the body mass index (BMI) to determine a snapshot view of obesity in America. The BMI uses a sliding scale of height and weight to estimate whether an individual may be obese or not. This method isn’t completely accurate because it does not adequately assess individual body fat percentages but it is the most expedient and cost effective means of determining potential obesity.…
