The waitress seemed pleased with my response, but she was lying. She must have been. No one could possibly enjoy community college, right?

Starting with general classes, I quickly learned what I had known my entire life – I enjoyed helping people. Be it as simple as helping a woman find her class in the first week of lecture, or as comprehensive as sitting down for hours with a friend, empathizing with their troubles and helping in any way my untrained ear could, I sought to relieve anguish. To help others was clear to be my calling in life.
My psychology courses quickly taught me that helping could be a career. Whether as a counselor, a psychologist, a social worker, or any multitude of other miscellaneous options within the field, my passion for helping was attainable as a lifelong profession in psychology, and I was ready to do whatever necessary to make it a reality.
I was wrong inside that Red Lobster. I am proud to have attended Oakland Community College. I have discovered myself, found my calling, adapted to life as a college student, met great people, and learned from incredible professors. I could not be happier with my decision to attend OCC. But it is time to move on. The highest degree offered in psychology by Oakland Community College is an Associate of Applied Science in Mental Health and Social Work. While this degree would be highly rewarding in its own regard, it is far from my end goal. I want to further my education as far as my knowledge and passion can take me, to a PhD in School Psychology
