According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, “Transitions or movements occur throughout an individual’s life” (“Transitions,” n.d.). “Each person navigates through different life stages, settings, and situations” (“Transitions,” n.d.). A transition that I recently experienced was the terminus of a major relationship. Transitions can have a positive or negative impact on an individual’s occupation (Tebo, 2015). As professionals, our occupations may be affected by the vicissitudes that we experience throughout our lives. However, in order to prosper in life, individuals need to learn and grow from their transitions.
This week’s readings and presentations accentuated that change is interrelated to context, people, and the environment (Willard, Boyt, Gillen, & Scaffa, 2014, p. 36). As human beings, we chose to surround ourselves with certain people to evade isolation. For me it was my ex-boyfriend who I had kenned for over six years. I apportioned all my life details with him because I felt comfortable. Upon the return from my vacation in India, I was thrilled to share the details of my peregrination with him. Despite of being jet legged, I decided to meet because I immensely missed him. However, when we met, I realized that it wasn’t a reciprocal feeling. I cerebrated maybe stress or responsibilities were consuming him.
A fortnight passed by, and I apperceived the need to discuss where we stood in our relationship. Family played a major role in our lives…
