This is a response to question number two. One of the mediums that we discussed in class was newspaper. Newspapers, as many people may know, have been on the decline in recent years, in terms of consumption. This is due to the increase in the amount of technology we use on an everyday basis and how much it has innovated. Technology has made it easier and easier to access worldwide news. 30 years ago, or even 15 years ago if you wanted to find out daily news you had to walk all the way to the coffee shop and pay for a newspaper, but today all it takes is reaching in your pocket and taking out your phone.
Another problem that newspapers face is their value for advertisements has also seen a steady decrease since this new age of technology. Since less and less people are buying newspapers, several companies don’t feel the need to put their advertisements in the newspaper. The companies can save their money for a electronic ad on a different platform like Facebook. Millions and millions of people go on Facebook daily. Advertisers are able to reach consumers in a more concentrated area. With new analytic technologies, ads are able to pop up on a computer screen for products that a consumer has previously searched for. Advertisements are the main source of revenue when it comes to newspapers. When there is a decline for demand of advertisements in newspapers declines then the newspaper looses a significant amount of money.
