John F. Kennedy is famous for saying, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” this quote applies to intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial opportunities. It is the fear of the unknown that often holds back a company from seizing a once in a lifetime opportunity, and equity crowdfunding is one of those opportunities. In 2014, equity crowdfunding was a $17.34 billion dollar industry. Linsco and Private Ledge Financial (LPL) should enter the equity crowdfunding arena to strengthen the value they bring to the marketplace. In the financial services industry since 1989, LPL is fourth largest independent broker-dealer and has contracts with over 14,000 advisors. LPL Financial has a robust client base of 4.6 million funded client accounts (LPL Financial, 2015). As this customer base grows, there will be an opportunity for LPL to merge or acquire other competitors in the segment. The second opportunity is leveraging the eight million millennials born between 1981 and 2005 (Schawbel, 2012). This generation values personal relationships but wishes to utilize technology. LPL can pioneer and handle the demands of this cohort due to their commitment to technology, regulation, and producing a richer customer experience. The third possibility is equity crowdfunding as an evolving and growing segment. Predictions suggest this segment will grow to $34 billion dollars in North America and provides businesses with the dollars needed to start, grow, or expand (2015CF, n.d.). Major corporate enterprises are considering how to become involved or using their existing commercial enterprise model to capitalize on this marketplace opportunity. In business since 1989, LPL Financial is one of the leading registered Independent Broker/Dealers with 14,130 advisors (LPL Financial, 2015). LPL offers a robust suite of related products in the segment, but a new offering could increase revenue and market
