The Importance Of Family Communication In Today's Society

Throughout our life we make many friendships and build many relationships. We also break many friendships and relationships, and in the process, we meet many people we think are worthy of being our friend and we hold them to be truthful with everything we say. But inside the little gap between each friendship is always family. Our family will always be there for us no matter what, they’ll stick by our side. To me, family is very important and they’re a big part of my life. I always try to keep in touch with my family that is back home, overseas, and I think having that sense of safety is really important to have in everyone’s life. Because in order for a household to be happy and trustworthy you need to communicate in all types of situations. First, family communication represents an important area in which to study about communication because it is “ through communication that families are defined and members learn how to organize meanings.” (Miller-Day). For one, “Family communication patterns develop uniquely over a relatively long period of time through sharing beliefs, norms, and history among family members” (Prasitthipab, S). To further explain, every single day a family goes through a routine, now this routine typically is the same from day to day. And so, for a family that has a routine, they are more likely to know when to communicate certain subjects with their family members.For instance, a daughter asking her mother to go to the mall with friends, might chose to ask them while they are all eating breakfast in the morning.
