This paper will explore how the social networking site known as Facebook has contributed to the way we interact with people. The purpose of this paper is to compare how Facebook enhances the way we communicate versus the negative components it brings to our social lives. The use of this digital media platform has become an integral aspect of everyday life. It has drastically altered how and when young people and adults connect with their friends, family members, and new relationships. Gross et al. (2005) states that while Facebook provides individuals with the opportunity to form new bonds and maintain old ones, it brings overwhelming negativity into users lives. Facebook is associated with an overall disatisfaction in association with relationships and many users face an abundance of privacy issues.Facebook was created in 2004 and within three years it was reported to have more than 21 million registered members generating 1.6 billion page views each day (Needham & Company, 2007). The site has become an integral part of its users social life. How many of us check Facebook more than once a day? According to a study done in 2006, the average participant spends an average of 20 minutes a day on the site, and two-thirds of users log in at least once a day (Cassidy, 2006).
