Toxic relationships are very common nowadays. These types of relationships can hold someone back from achieving great things in life, such as a good career, or buying a house. It comes in phases. Those phases being, trying to “recover the lost object or person, disorganization, and reorganization” (Gray, et. al.). These phases are important to go through so that you can fully move on from something. Moving on can be difficult, and sometimes it is hard to accept the fact that moving on is necessary. Sometimes to create a better future, moving on is part of that. Whether moving on from a toxic relationship, or any relationship, it is for the best.
I can remember being in a toxic relationship at one point that lasted three years. It affected everything from my family to how I viewed myself. It caused me to think that everything I did was wrong, or that even spending time doing my schoolwork was an inconvenience. It took me almost a year to finally move on from such a horrible relationship, and it took a lot of effort to do so. Had I not moved on, I’m sure that I would still be dealing with that person. I am also sure that being around that person, even as a friend, would hold me back from what I want to do most in
