When I was younger, my grandma would pick me up from school on Fridays and take me to the well-known park in Tallahassee. We would pace around the park, taking in the sun’s sultry rays while talking and feeding the seasonal ducks. My grandmother would always speak about her younger days. Nana would have to spawn the things she wore being that, she was too skinny for the average adolescent clothes. Of course, her peers would judge her because the clothes were different than theirs. Nana brought up the fact that she stood out so, she was verbally attacked about her weight and garments. She told me she took what she was given in life and made the best of it no matter how others criticized her. At that moment, I felt secure with myself. I would then proceed to ask her how she created the clothing. Nana would talk about how she would take loose rigid fabrics and piece them together. Due to the fact that the items were asymmetrical, she had to ditch the blue cookie can and get an affordable sewing machine. Nana finished by stating how her old designs were becoming the style during the time. Nana always talked like being skinny was meant for her because, she found her passion which was designing clothes. Although I heard the same story plenty of times, I appreciate it till this day. I became to feel comfortable with being slender and I felt almost certain that I was meant to be a fashion
