When Napoleon heard rumors, he killed all the animals that were said to still have contact with Snowball. In the book, it says, “They were all slain on the spot. And so the tale of confessions and executions went on, until there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleon's feet and the air was heavy with the smell of blood” (84). He believed if the animals feared him then they would not rebel. He also used the dogs to make the animals fear him. The book states “...the dogs let out blood-curdling growls and showed their side teeth. The animals were thoroughly frightened” (79). This shows how the dog scared and threatened the animals to stop them from rebelling and to get his way. Hence, you can see, that he used these terrible ways to make the animals fear him because power went to his head.
Clearly, you can see, that Napoleon was corrupt with power when he chases Snowball off the farm, brainwashes the animals to always think he is right, plus kills many animals and uses his dog to make the others fear him. As Aung San Suu Kyi once said, “It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it.” When Napoleon got just a little taste of power, he gathered as much as he could and acted with cruelty because he feared he would lose
