A mindset can change from good to evil by the power of greed. Power requires responsibility, and if an individual does not use their power in a positive light then they will destroy the people around them. Animal Farm by George Orwell is an allegory of animals based of the Russian Revolution leaders that rebel after being harshly mistreated by their owner. The leader of the animals, Napoleon, manipulates the farm animals to establish a tyrannical rule over the farm. George Orwell reveals how the use and misuse of power can inspire or corrupt a society through the main characters Napoleon, Squealer, and Old Major in his novel, Animal Farm.

His faith in Animalism provides the animals with confidence that their society could survive without humans. Old Major states in his speech “And remember also that in fighting against Man, we must not come to resemble him” (Chapter 1, pg 5). The animals were able to live freely until Napoleon corrupted the farm. Old Major’s speech before the rebellion allowed animals to view the negative changes that occurred under Napoleon's rule. Old Major’s inspirational speech resembles people who implanted ideas of the revolution, the Marx, in the Russian Revolution. The animals adopted the ideals of Animalism due to the respect they had for Old Major. Orwell reveals how one moment of bravery can alter the lives of an society since Old Major’s speech installed confidence within the animals to aim for a more hopeful life.
