The book To kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee shows the place of black people in the society back then. In the book Tom Robinson is falsely accused of raping a white woman. The woman that accuses him is a Ewell. The Ewell family were seen as the lowest of the lowest of the white people in that town. Atticus, the lawyer of Tom Robinson shows proof that Tom Robinson did not rape that woman but the white jury declares him guilty anyways. It started with Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Alabama bus. Black people were supposed to sit in the back of the bus and when the front were already full and a white person had no seat they were supposed to give their seat to them, because Rosa Parks refused, she got arrested. Through her courage the Montgomery Bus Boycott started. The Boycott is a success and the segregation in buses ends. The leader of that Boycott, Martin Luther King Jr. steps up and creates his own movement which goes on to be very successful. His methods of non violent protest and his speeches changes a lots of people attitudes and mindsets. Still, all this started with Rosa Parks and her actions. Rosa Parks resistance was the spark for Martin Luther King Jr. and his community to become active, her “small” courageous act changed the minds of her own
