In March of 1922 Gandhi was taken to prison for sedition. In prison Gandhi still spoke out for his cause. Mandela and gandhi spoke even when they had been imprisoned. He spent two years in prison before getting released after getting a surgery for his appendicitis. Gandhi did not get evolved in any politics for the next six years. In 1930 he started the salt march which lasted for several months. The Salt March was to protest the taxes on salt that affected the mostly the poorest civilians. The British then made a deal with Gandhi. He stopped the resistance to represent the Congress party at the round table conference. Upon arrival gandhi was arrested by the newly angered government. Gandhi started hunger strikes for the ill treatment of the poorer classes. His followers caused an uprising over theses fasts. Government swiftly reformed because of the uprising. It was not until 1947 when the labor party took control he negotiations started. Perseverance and persuasion led to the decision for the British to leave India. Even though the British did not want to leave India whole. They wanted to split India into two separate countries. Gandhi accepted the division because it meant the British was leaving India.
