Holistic Life Savior Upon this specific era, women of high social class and economic status were expected to find a suitable mate, marry, maintain a lovely home, and be an effective hostess. However, one woman contested the norm and went beyond the societal expectations. She was determined to follow her calling for nursing and became an advocate for the sick. Thus, Florence Nightingale became a pioneer in her multifaceted approach to patient care. This foundation is built on the nurse to patient to environment relationship in the highest regard to family and spiritual beliefs with the necessity to provide quality care. (Finkleman & Kenner, 2016). I believe Nursing to be a passion. It’s not a task that one decides to take lightly. It’s a privileged profession with the view of many aspects that are inclusive of the knowledge and skill needed to save a life. Holistically it embraces other connected elements like pieces to a puzzle to provide efficient healthcare. This is in correlation with the model of Nightingale’s concepts of person, environment, health and nursing. With this in mind, I want to extend care to its fullest measure as I know based on first hand experience being a patient how important and meaningful it really is to have a nurse that is knowledgable with effective bedside manner. When I have the distinct honor and pleasure of becoming a nurse, I want to implement these ideals that forever instill this newly found perspective. I want to be able to connect with my experiences of what life has taught me and become a lifelong learner in this
