Objectives
The overall objective of the full study is to determine if ALL survivors are at increased risk for postural control deficits compared to healthy age-matched individuals. The specific aims and hypotheses for this project are:
Aim 1: Compare postural control in ALL survivors to healthy age-matched individuals. Specifically, the following hypotheses will be tested:
1. There will be no difference in postural control, as measured with dynamic posturography, during …show more content…
When compared to healthy age-matched individuals, ALL survivors will display decreased postural control during cognitive-motor task conditions (ie. standing activities with an additional imposed cognitive load) with respect to:
• Equilibrium score
• Vision ratio
• Somatosensory ratio
• Vestibular ratio
3. ALL survivors will display greater cognitive-motor task cost than healthy age matched individuals in equilibrium score.
4. During cognitive-motor task conditions where there are no differences in dynamic posturography measures between ALL survivors and healthy age-matched individuals, there will be diminished postural control in ALL survivors as documented by poorer cognitive performance. (NOTE: We belive during cognitive-motor tasks, diminished cognitive performance without concomitant diminished physical performance is also indicative of diminished postural control.)
This will be determined by measuring cognitive performance during the following conditions:
• SOT Condition 1: Normal vision-fixed support
• SOT Condition 2: Absent vision-fixed support
• SOT Condition 3: Sway referenced vision-fixed support
• SOT Condition 4: Normal vision-Sway referenced support
• SOT Condition 5: Absent vision- Sway referenced
