Bladder Control Problems – Urinary incontinence is a common problem in our elderly generations. Urinary incontinence can lead to problems like falls, depression from embarrassment and isolation from not wanting to venture out in public (National Institutes of Health, 2017). There are many risk factors for falling but a health care provider needs to know for the patient to be tested to find the cause and prevent further falls (Abraham & Cimino-Fiallos, 2016). Maria has had several instances with falling. She had broken her nose, left leg and right arm. Each instance she had to go to rehab in order to get stronger and able to walk with a cane and function on her own. Previous medical diagnosis such as arthritis, fractures, urinary incontinence and recent hospital discharges only risk factors for more falls in the future (Abraham & Cimino-Fiallos, 2016).
Osteoporosis – Osteoporosis is a condition where the patient’s bones are more fragile and easier to break (National Osteoporosis Foundation, 2017). Women over the age of 65 usually lose bone density and should get a bone density test (National Osteoporosis Foundation, 2017). Medical solutions can be recommended for treatment. In Maria’s case her falls have resulted in several broken bones; some severely broken. • Complete a physical for patient including labs, hypoxemia, electrolytes, glucose, ammonia levels, BUN/Cr and a bone scan.

• Evaluate any balance impairments related to falls. Evaluate patient for gait, balance, and any neuropathies.
• Check and Monitor high blood pressure.
• Check and Monitor high lipids
• Check for Osteoporosis

Complete workup must be completed to find overall health of patient. Must review chronic medical conditions as well as kidney/bladder problems and osteoporosis issues.
