Cancer prevention is becoming more and more important worldwide. Many developed countries have already set up the guidelines and national cancer screening programs. The middle school students and their mothers in rural China will be selected as our target population. In this project, for middle school students to inject the HPV vaccine is primary prevention. While to their mothers, to take part in the cervical cancer screening program belong to secondary prevention.
The students and their mothers will be given classes and booklets about screening and HPV vaccine program. At first, a questionnaire will survey their current knowledge and attitude towards cervical cancer, sexual behavior, screening and HPV vaccine. It will show the baseline status before education and know the reason why they didn’t want to join these programs.
Firstly they will know something about cervical cancer including the symptom, the HPV and the relationship between HPV and cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a disease with little symptoms in the early stage or the pre-cancer stage. Lacking of subjective symptoms was one of the main reasons for women to refrain from examinations. On the other side, they would prefer to go to health tests when they felt uncomfortable or illness. So they must be informed that they have no symptoms, they do in fact have been infected by HPV.
