“Young Goodman Brown” and “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” are related to the religious believes. “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” by Jonathan Edwards compare his audiences to sinners, as the “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne said the “evil is the nature of mankind.” Both documents is trying to convert people to Christians or make them better Christians by scaring them. In “Young Goodman Brown,” Goodman Brown have to leave his three month married wife, Faith, along in the house for his evil purpose. He also promised to himself to be a better person after this trip. In the gloom forest, he found the man he expected. The man offered Goodman Brown a staff he carried with him, but he refused. At the moment when Goodman Brown replied that he still want to return to the village, a old woman name Goody Cloyse, the respect woman from the village, came. Goodman Brown hided from her because he’s embarrassed to be seen with the man. Goody identifies the man as the devil and told him that he is witch, on her way to the evil forest ceremony. After, the man gives Goodman Brown his staff to transport to the ceremony if he changes his mind of going back for Faith’s sake. He soon saw the minister of the church and Deacon Gookin, and they are also on their way to the ceremony. Then Goodman Brown heard her wife’s voice, and the pink ribbon from her cap on the sky. He wanted to go back to the village because of Faith, and so he grabbed the staff so he can see his wife…
