Comparing Evil In Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown 'And O' Connor

Hawthorne literary work “Young Goodman Brown” ¬ and O’Connor’s “A Goodman is Hard to Find” depict two different tales revolving around religions good versus evil. In the short story “Young Goodman Brown”, we are introduced to a character who willingly takes part in devilish acts, and attempts to use his wife faith as a tether to pull him back into the graces of god. Whilst in a good man is hard to find we encounter a grandmother who portrays herself as a lady which she is not. They both when presented to other individuals hid who they really were. Young Goodman brown hiding behind the cover of the forest, and the grandmother hiding herself through her wardrobe. Yet they also were able to reform themselves to be there betters after a journey. …show more content…
In the short story Goodman brown the main character ventures off into the woods with the devil one last time to enjoy himself in some debauchery. The character meets face to face with the devil, and evidently the devil appearance resembles him quite greatly the only difference is that he seems to be aged. Which demonstrates clearly that all mankind does have a side that is evil. Goodman brown continues his adventures with the devil believing that he could return back to the graces of god by using his wife as a tether. It so happens that as he ventures further through the woods he comes across faith his wife, pink ribbon and, realizes that faith has fallen. The once important tether to bring him back is no longer there for him to grab onto.
