Everyday in society we hear people say things like, “They’re just a racist,” “Stop being a bigot,” or “What a sexist pig.” Who would want to disagree with the people making these accusations? You would then be accused of the same thing. What happens when people make these accusations, that you’re racist, sexist, homophobic, or a bigot? Well, it becomes your reputation, it can destroy your career, or invalidate a lifetime of good work. We see people that have disagreed with common beliefs or ideas be accused of being racist, sexist, homophobic or a bigot, when maybe they just have a different opinion. I’m not saying that it’s a good thing to actively offend people and hate others for their differences, but there are certain points where people need to stop worrying if their feelings are going to be hurt. If we can't talk about our feelings, fears, aspirations, anxieties, assumptions, hopes, worries, dreams, and concerns, how can we ever build trust with those who are different from us? If we can't talk about differences that puzzle us, or things we're curious about, without fear of giving offense, then how can we ever overcome our ignorance about cultures and races -- or even the opposite sex?” BJ Gallagher’s point makes a lot of sense and is something we should all really think about. In order to solve problems or conflicts or even just function with other people we need to be able to accept differences in opinion. We all need to be comfortable with people having beliefs that go against our own or the common held belief without accusing them of being
