Being A Misogynist

Decent Essays
Throughout the past election cycle, I have experienced many degrading comments and accusations of being a racist because of my political opinions. Although some of these comments may not mean any harm, I have taken them to heart. I am a conservative, and because of my view, some people with opposing viewpoints accuse me of racial intolerance. I can proudly say that I am not and have never been a racist or misogynist. All people have equal rights expressed in the constitution and I believe they should be treated as such. It is sad to me that the United States of America has come to personal attacks of certain groups of people for how they vote or for what they believe. I do not believe any person has more of less rights than another, and my

The term politically correct first appeared in the 1960’s and since then it has evolved far beyond its original purposes. In his article “Apple Removes All American Civil War Games From the App Store Because of the Confederate Flag”, Tasos Lazarides informs people about Apple’s decision to remove the image of the Confederate Battle Flag the author does not take a strong position in the argument. He uses the article more for informational purposes, as opposed to using the article for an argument. Recently there has been uproar over the use of the Confederate Battle Flag. People find it offensive and therefore, it is being taken down everywhere.…

The last thing you want to do is offend someone because of their beliefs, their faith, race, sex, gender, or anything. The public is becoming more aware of this as several media outlets have taken to using what they call “politically correct” terms. Terms that when used in discussions about sensitive topics, will hopefully not rub anybody the wrong way. At least, that’s what they want you to believe. Many Americans disagree with the notion that you have to speak in a “politically correct” fashion.…

24% of Americans were able to list the freedom of religion as a First Amendment right, with 14% being able to list the freedom of press, and 11% able to list the freedom of assembly. The lowest percent would belong to the freedom of petition, which would be a lowly 4% of Americans who knew of this right. These percentages are extremely alarming, considering the fact that many Americans are calling to limit and restrict a right they do not even understand. The situation at hand is much like a person shooting themself in the foot due to an ignorance of firearm use. Americans would be crippling themselves by attempting to…

We have all seen or heard those nasty and abusive comments. Some learned these words at a young age and some learned them at school with friends. Despite this, we have learned to treat everyone equal; black, white, male, or female, everyone has the same opportunity to be successful in life because we have learned to not hire or refuse people a job based on different skin color. It wasn't like that before, but now we have learned the right way to treat a person. There were multiple shocking things that were presented in this unit, from some scenes in the Movie Crash, to an article about a Trump supporter being mauled based on a stereotype; they both show wrong ways to treat others.…

There are many things that set us apart from other countries like our right to vote and freedom of expression. That's why these privileges should be kept to those willing to follow the rules and abide by the law. Citizens who are willing to abide by the law and following the rules should be the only ones who are allowed privileges such as the right to vote. Citizens who follow the the rules and respect the law should be the only people who are granted these privileges; like the right to vote, hold public office, and bear arms.…

Some citizens feels as if it is being abused, but there are many reasons for restrictions and limits towards one being. If the citizens continue to look at this situation as a bad thing they need to think about how the society would be if everyone had their freedom for every right. The world would be chaos no rules or laws whatsoever. If the citizens continue to feel this way and keep fighting then that leaves the future to be unsatisfactory, careless, and substandard. There is no future if they go down that…

    Arminio Defining Racism

Upon analyzing the readings for this week, two in particular stood out and intertwined the best to me. “Defining Racism,” by Tatum and “Wake up White People,” by Arminio related to each other well due to their messages about racism. I found that I opposed content in these passages greatly. “Defining Racism” was about how racism has a fluid definition that basically is an umbrella term for all mistreatment of those of a different ethnic background. The reading also noted that prejudice goes hand in hand with racism, saying that prejudice is what causes us to act deeper on the idea of racism.…

Almost 20 million people were in attendance at this fair and “gawked” at these exhibits. This movement also sickened me, mostly because on some level, it still occurs today. While not racially motivated, the idea of something unfamiliar or different to another ileitis stares, finger pointing and rude comments. I work with individuals who are developmental disabled.…

Provocateurs are important A better goal than “being able to ignore the provocateurs”, would be learning from them, strengthening your own opinion and voice. Of course, the correct response to a controversial statement is not rioting and violence. However, it is even more unhelpful to be unwilling to listen. Costello’s ideal about not provoking anyone simply leads to wrapping a bubble around students and creating intolerance for free thought.…

    Essay On Sexism

In our society today, there are still many techniques of discrimination that one would think had been eradicated years ago. One of these techniques is sexism, which is the act of prejudice, stereotyping, and/or intolerance on the basis of gender. Sexism has taken control over the way people think and it affects the job industry, government decisions, the media, and unfortunately, education. Children begin to experience sexism at a young age, typically in elementary school. An example of a subliminal sexist message that they might experience would be a teacher scolding a female student for acting in an unorthodox fashion that does not fit the ‘calm, respectful, and neat’ stereotype for girls, but then excusing the same actions of a male student, using the overused, disgusting statement ‘boys will be boys.’…

Summary of “In Defense of Prejudice” In the United States, it can be seen almost anywhere that societies are becoming more and more conscious of the words they use to describe people, in the case of accidentally offending someone. However, when some words are determined as being “hate-speech” and are deemed criminal, the notion of free speech begins to be altered. With certain words now being treated as legitimate violence against another, where does one draw the line when considering one’s constitutional right to free speech, even when that person is obviously prejudiced? In Jonathan Rauch’s essay, “In Defense of Prejudice”, he argues that instead of eradicating all forms of prejudice in the United States,…

Then, Racism is a never ending circle of Stereotypes and problems. With that being said, not everyone has the same viewpoint. Freedom of speech gives you the right to voice your opinion on any topic. But, that should go for everyone.
