According to Marc Oxoby, a professor at the University of Nevada, “The title character, played by Daniel Radcliffe, returns for his second year at Hogwarts, despite warnings that someone or something is out for him.” This is only a brief overview of the plot, but we can easily expand this to a more in-depth understanding. During the summer, Harry is visited by a house-elf, Dobby, who gives him a warning not to return to Hogwarts. He ignores this warning and returns to school. The caretaker’s cat is petrified with a threatening message on the wall saying that the Chambers of Secrets has been opened. Doing some research in the library Hermione learns that a chamber was opened at Hogwarts fifty years ago and a student was killed. Students all over the school are being petrified, and many people think Harry is the one to blame because he can talk to snakes and he stumbled upon the bodies of Headless Nick and Justin Finch; but Hagrid ends up being arrested. Harry and Ron get a tip that they need to follow the spiders which leads them to Aragog; the spider tells them that Hagrid is innocent. Hermione figures out that a basilisk or snake is the one to blame then suddenly Ginny Weasley is taken into the chamber. Harry, Ron, and Lockhart venture into the chamber and manage to kill the snake.
