Did you know that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets combined made over two billion worldwide at the box office? The purpose of my speech today is to tell you about these two movies. Since I have read the books, did extensive research, and watched both of these movies many times, I consider myself a credible source. Right now, I want to tell you about the Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets plot, main characters I think you should know about, and a brief background of the author who produced and wrote these movies. According to Marc Oxoby, a professor at the University of Nevada, “The title character, played by Daniel Radcliffe, returns for his second year at Hogwarts, despite warnings that someone or something is out for him.” This is only a brief overview of the plot, but we can easily expand this to a more in-depth understanding. During the summer, Harry is visited by a house-elf, Dobby, who gives him a warning not to return to Hogwarts. He ignores this warning and returns to school. The caretaker’s cat is petrified with a threatening message on the wall saying that the Chambers of Secrets has been opened. Doing some research in the library Hermione learns that a chamber was opened at Hogwarts fifty years ago and a student was killed. Students all over the school are being petrified, and many people think Harry is the one to blame because he can talk to snakes and he stumbled upon the bodies of Headless Nick and Justin Finch; but Hagrid ends up being arrested. Harry and Ron get a tip that they need to follow the spiders which leads them to Aragog; the spider tells them that Hagrid is innocent. Hermione figures out that a basilisk or snake is the one to blame then suddenly Ginny Weasley is taken into the chamber. Harry, Ron, and Lockhart venture into the chamber and manage to kill the snake. After Harry kills the snake, he finds out Tom Riddle, a younger version of Voldemort was the one controlling the snake via an …show more content…
Joanne was born in Yate, England; the daughter of Peter James and Anne. As a kid, she loved to write short imaginative stories, which she would read to her sister, named Dianne. During a four-hour train ride to London, she had an idea to write a book about a young wizard. She managed to write this book while living through depression and extreme poverty, but Rowling managed to sell the book for four thousand dollars. This gave her hope; in 1998, the second book came out Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Within three years she made over 480 million dollars. After releasing all the books, she became one of Britain’s wealthiest women. She lives in England with her husband, Dr. Neil Murray, and her three children; Jessica Arantes, David Murray, and Mackenzie Murray. Rowling continues to write books today like “The Silkworm” and “The Cuckoo’s Calling”; additionally she donated most of her money to charity (Biography.com Editors).
