Personal Narrative: The Harry Potter Series

I staggered backwards, head throbbing, unable to gain balance. The cold night air surrounded me, numbing my fingers as they pressed against my burning forehead. My blurry eyes could barely make out the shapes before me, but I could see a figure standing merely feet away, drinking the blood of a—unicorn? As I tried to concentrate on the dying being, something leapt over me unexpectedly. I—
“Megan, time for dinner!” I heard from outside of my bedroom.
“One more minute!” I called, desperate to read just one more line, just one more chapter. I was consumed by this renowned work of literature. A life-long love of reading mixed with a great book series and a dash of an obsessive personality can make a potion that is intense, to say the least. The Harry Potter Series is an integral part of my identity and has molded me into the book-addict I am today.
I cannot remember when I first saw a Harry Potter book. My mom became a pretty big fan and, after watching the first two movies, she started reading the series when I was about four years old. I have hazy

Sure, I had read chapter books before and I did enjoy them, especially the Magic Tree House Series, but no book really let me become the characters, the setting, and the story. When I read Harry Potter, I fell inside the books and could no longer separate reality from fiction. While reading, I became Hermione deciding on which potion would allow them to advance to the next room. I was Harry, figuring out the Sphynx’s riddle in the Triwizard Tournament maze. My name was Ron Weasley and I had five brothers and a sister. Ever since reading the series, I have been able to fall into every book I read. Unless the book is outrageously bad or outstandingly boring, I can turn the words on a page into events playing out before my very eyes. I owe a great deal of my reading ability to J.K. Rowling and the magical world she

Bullets of sweat started running down my face as it is my turn to read a page from a book out loud to the class. Although the book was a simple elementary level book, to me it had the complexity of Shakespeare as I looked down at the words. For many kids my age reading skills seemed to come naturally to them, they could read through pages and pages without the slightest flaw. This made me question if there was something wrong with me or if I would ever be able to read as elegantly as others seemed too. If I wanted to be like the other kids it was going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part, so over the summer of fourth and fifth grade I did nothing but eat and breathe books.…

A girl at school once asked me, “How are you in this constant state of reading?” I laughed because the answer is simple: I love to read. I chose books as a symbol because reading and literature is very important to my culture and my family. When my father was young, his grandmother used to read to him every day, and my father did the same for my siblings and I. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read, and I own many books that I keep on shelves.…

The entire bedroom was enclosed in a blanket of darkness. I could hear my sisters, Lillian and Angela, breathing lightly as sleep came across them. I edged my way to the little bookcase next to my bed and my hand fumbled across it; I felt my horse figurines, a few hairclips, and a notebook, but I didn’t need those things now. Finally, my hand located my mini yellow flashlight I had earned at that year’s summer reading program. Grasping it tightly, I retreated to my pillow and reached underneath and pulled out…Extra Credit.…

I have always been a reader, I don't think there has ever been a time in my life where I haven't loved it. My mom is a teacher, so as a child reading was part of our everyday life. We had annual passes to the library and would attend the mommy and me events. I remember when I was about four or five, I would sneak a flashlight into my room and read Wizard of Oz. Although I couldn't actually read the words out of this huge chapter book, I would make the story up, pretending I knew what I was reading.…

Personally, reading is not a task that is prominent in my life. This summer, however, I was able to read two books, Room and Out of My Mind, because I, as previously stated, spent a large portion of my summer at a camp in which the usage of cell phones was prohibited. Through this experience, I determined that although I do enjoy sitting down and getting enveloped by the plot and characters of a book, I can never find time to do so. Still, those few times that I have been able to experience a book similar to the previous, I have felt the pleasure of being purely relaxed and distant from the real world. Despite that nearly all novels assigned to be read in school are for the greater part uninteresting, some are actually intriguing and memorable.…

Reading Memoir "I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book." by J.K. Rowling.
