Stowe was born to mother, Roxanna Foote Beecher and father, Reverend Lyman Beecher . Harriet’s mother , Roxanna , died when Harriet was a small child at the age of five. Harriet’s older sister became a mother-like figure and role model for Stowe after Roxanne’s passing. Harriet began writing, painting, and drawing at a very young age of just seven years old, and At seven Stowe won a school contest , that gave a great deal of pride to her father for her award winning essay. Growing up, Stowe enjoyed reading, playing , and hiking. In 1824 , Stowe became a student and later a teacher at a school founded by her sister. She spent countless hours writing essays to further her writing experience and abilities.
