From 205 BC to 220 AD China was ruled by the Han dynasty. The Han dynasty was a time of great innovation with both positive and negative impacts. Innovations like the development and popularization of the silk road had several positive impacts on China. However, these innovations would eventually cause the fall of the Han dynasty. The Civil Service Exam is one of these innovations. The Silk Road was one of the most revolutionary innovations in all of Chinese history. The Silk Road stretched all the way from China to the Middle East (doc 4). China was known for holding the secret of silk making and China used the Silk Road to trade silk across the Middle East to Europe, this gave China great wealth (Doc 4). It also brought cultural diffusion to China eventually bringing Buddhism to China (IO). The Great Wall of China was also expanded to protect those who followed the Silk Road. Looking back the impact of the Silk Road it seems mostly positive however it also had its drawbacks. While traveling the Silk Road many traders would encounter bandits that would steal from or even kill the traveler (IO). Overall the Silk Road impacted China in a positive way, skyrocketing it both in wealth and status. However, innovations such as the addition of the Civil Service Exam had …show more content…
Some innovations like the popularization of the Silk Road had a positive impact. And others like the installation of the Civil Service Exam had more mixed effects on Chinese society. The Silk Road opened up trade to China and boosted its wealth through the trading of silk, also creating cultural diffusion (doc 4, OI). However, the Civil Service Exam caused China’s wealth the plummet because most wealthy families being exempt from taxes. But also creating a meritocracy within China (doc 6). All in all the innovations made during the Han dynasty had many different impacts on Chinese society changing it
