God’s Love Language: Obedience
During Samuel 's time, the Israelites said to him, “Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” (1) After being giving such a strong request Samuel prayed to the Lord and returned to the Israelites with the Lords warning of what having a king would become of them but again the Israelites insisted that they must have a king because they wanted to be like all the other nations. They wanted a king to judge for them, defend them, and fight them. The people of Israel had their minds made up. They felt that having God as their king just wasn 't good enough. God choose David as His choice for their leader. David, a “Bethlehemite from the tribe of Judah, and a fulfillment of the Messianic prophesies “. (6) David was the complete opposite of Saul. David wasn 't that good looking. He was basically a boy, but the greatest thing about him was his love for the Lord. God knew that by choosing David as the Israelites new leader would be the greatest decision because of his bravery. David gaining his victory against Goliath showed that he wasn’t afraid unlike Saul. He took on the fight with confidence, “in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.” (7) Unlike Saul, David gave all the glory of the victory God. David’s obedience to the Lord 's commands was a great way of showing his love for God. On two occasions, David had the opportunity to take life away from Saul and took his seat at the throne, but David respected God 's plan for Saul so he didn’t interfere. He would wait for is anointing from God and become king when it was his time. David continued to honor God during his reign, but he was not perfect committing such sins as murder and lies. But he repented and asked for Gods forgiveness. One of David 's sins was having a relationship with Bathsheba, which they had a baby,
