Chaim Potok uses David Malter in The Chosen to demonstrate an example of how some should live. Not only his authoritative personality, but his response to different situations. He employs a Christian attitude and tires to lead by examples. By living with a patriarchal persona, not only does he help others, he faces temptations yet stays grounded. David Malter employs the likeness of Christ compared to all the characters by his leadership, personality, and his principles. No matter the environment, human beings are always looking for someone to model themselves from. During Jesus’ ministry, his apostles and his followers tried to live life based of his example. In the same way, David gives an example to these around him how to live. Not just his son, but his colleagues around him recognized his leadership. Leadership also includes leading by example. David always treated everyone, including those he did not agree with, with respect. Many people were attracted to his leadership because of …show more content…
It would not even matter that those around him did not agree. In fact, as the book continued, he became a more impassioned Zionist trying to fight the resistance. He filled his life with a purpose, because he needed a cause. “A man must fill his life with meaning, meaning is not automatically given in life.” David Malter believed religion should impact politics and daily life. His interpretations of the works he studied gave him reason to push forward as a person. Overall, David Malter represents the ideal Jewish father. Between his love for his family, and his love and compassion for those around him, he lives as an example. Though he is not perfect, he strives to lead those around him. Because he is portrayed as a perfect character, readers can see his consistency to his principles. Though he becomes more passionate near the end, it is never in doubt that he strives to be a leader for

In my life, I have heard many people talking about a renowned, legitimate, and powerful person, God, and most of them expressed their thoughts in a similar way, that “ I always believe in God and Jesus, and I am trying to do well for his glory.” Explicitly, they declare their genuine beliefs in God and their deeds which honor the grace of God; however, in a deeper manner, I find that so many people are so hypocritical, inasmuch as they merely attempt to be nobly mendacious about their faith and and their action. I can comprehend the replicated, repeated contents which they intends to convey to other people, and the wordings of those spoken, or written contents are felicitous, making the hearer delighted. I am able to sense the truth behind the gracious sentences, such as “I am trying to do well for his glory,” yet it is indeed “for my sake.” Apparently, many people have been hardly capable of divulging the factual matters to other people, even those matters are about their merciful, puissant God; however, today, I have recently read the first two chapters of a book named Blue Like Jazz of Donald Miller, and I find its stand-out quality--the certain truth as regards human’s thoughts and faith.…

The beginning statement said this is David’s Psalm as he is running from his son Absalom. I can’t imagine the pain and hurt David must be feeling. His own son is trying to find him and take over his kingdom and even kill him. I’m sure God has similar feelings when we his children run from him and try to place ourselves in a position that is “higher” than the Lord Almighty. It’s a hard prayer for David to ask the LORD to take care of the wickedness (his on son) that is seeking after him.…

Agency is a right and privilege that has been gifted to all mankind. Regardless of circumstance or condition, this freedom of choice cannot be taken away or denied, however, every choice has consequence, be it positive or negative. Chaim Potok’s, The Chosen, beautifully demonstrates this principle through the immaculate illustration of the struggles of modern assimilated Jew, Reuven Malter, and his Hasidic friend, Danny Saunders, with obtaining the courage to choose their own paths despite the negative consequences. Reuven and Danny both feared the consequence of choosing the life they wanted to live.…
