There are a variety of different relationships within the household that make it so unique. The unusual dynamic includes a married couple with an open relationship, a gay single man and a newly single mother with her children. Perhaps the most interesting relationship of all is the other married couple living in the commune, Lasse and Anna. Lasse and Anna were married and had a child together when they moved in. Anna reveals her desires to experiment with women and become a lesbian to her husband. Lasse believes it is just a phase and living in the commune allows Anna to act on her urges while staying married. The family members are all very open minded about sexuality. No one sees gender, they look at one another as humans who all require the same basic needs. There are no set roles, they take care of each other and contribute the same amount on a daily basis. Their daily routine differs from that of a stereotypical family. For most people, a household is composed of a married mother and father with their children. It is common for households to have a stay-at-home mother with a working father who supports the family. Families with this dynamic are based off of tradition. Parents with an open relationship or who couples experimenting with the same sex, is not typically presented in Hollywood films. Each character who chooses to stay in the commune preaches their beliefs, almost pushing them onto others. These strong opinions go against traditional values.
