Genetic Roulette Genetically Modified Organisms, otherwise known as GMO’s, could potentially stop world hunger; however, the risks outweigh the greater good. The mixing of genetic material can raise the risks of allergic reactions to foods. Furthermore, tests have shown that many hazards and medical complications come from consuming genetically modified foods. In addition, genetically modified foods do not only affect foods like tomatoes but meats as well. Yes, Genetically Modified Organisms come in larger harvests, provide bigger than average results and are pesticide resistant; however, the risks that come with consumption of GMOs are too dangerous. Genetically Modified Organisms are organisms who have their genetic coding changed by adding in another organism 's genes. These mutated organisms can be anything such as meats, vegetables, fruits, grains, or bacteria. While people think that scientists will mix a vegetables with vegetables this is not the case. Scientific data proves that “ animal genes and even human genes are randomly inserted into the chromosomes of plants, fish, and other animals creating heretofore unimaginable transgenic life forms” (Miller). Once mutated these new organisms get categorized and tracked, this is done by classification of generation. The first generation, and the second generation can be completely different from each other, because they add on to the previous generation to enhance the organism even further.
