Although it is thought that genetically modified food may be unhealthy and unfriendly to the environment, by some others believe it is actually the one sustainable source that could feed the huge demand of food concerns to a large number of the population around the world under global climate change conditions and without any evidence of negative side effects of GM food. In addition, GM food is more economical than non-GM food and uses fewer of fertilizers and pesticides. This essay will argue why the concerns about GM food have little merit.
Transgenic modified food are more effective to supply the huge demands of food for a significant growth of world population especially in developing countries. According to UN report (2013) the world population keeps growing and it is estimated to reach 9.6 billion by 2050, around 60% of them living in the underdeveloped nations. Moreover, approximately 795 million individuals on the planet do not have food to lead a healthy life. That is around one in nine individuals on earth. In addition, around almost 40 years contrary to the claims of these opposed to GM food, there have not been any registered cases of such causing cancer or any other diseases. Besides, there are a significant use of genetic engineering in health sector such as allergy to wheat and other grains. Transgenic engineering provide a cure for the world by harnessing natural tool and it is the guide line research for improvement the treatment of serious disease confronting the world. Furthermore, in the USA, GM products get investigation from a different government agencies in which they undergo various safety survey in all stages of production in comparison with non GM food. This safety record is sponsored by a wide scope of international scientific organisations such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, and the World Health Organisation.
