Genetic engineering allows scientists to modify the genes in the crops grown to produce bigger and faster growing plants that resist diseases. They can be customized to thrive in harsh environments. Many generations have suffered from diseases such as Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis and Huntington's diseases. However with genetic engineering, these patients will be reduced in number. Scientists are now able to target the inherited genes that cause these mutations and replace it with a healthier gene. This way, the offsprings will not carry on the disease and would live a longer healthier life. Although this would be a tremendous improvement to cure these diseases, the process arise several ethical considerations, such as stereotyping. It can be harmful as people begin to identify populations to specific criterias instead of medical treatment. This technique may lead to people preferencing certain traits over others and seek to genetically enhance certain genes, not out of medical necessity.
