Genetic Engineering Persuasive Essay

In this rapidly changing world, scientists are creating new ways to improve the human race. They have turned to genetic engineering to accomplish the job. Genetic engineering is adding new DNA to an organism manually with the purpose of trying to produce traits that are not originally in the organism, and it has been a part of history since the early 1900s starting with crops and farm animals, and they also started to clone animals such as cows, sheep, pigs, and mice. The time for humans is here, and it is scary. I see no need to alter a child’s genes for the parent’s own purposes. In ‘Designer’ Humans Kass predicts, “Having a second human species will create a host of new problems in society, he points out. “These people will either be seen as superior to us or as freaks,” he says. “So either they will rule over us or we’ll get scared and kill them.”” (Masci 430). The world will be unpredictable when the new race comes along. Others see no harm in genetic engineering, and parents will choose what they want for their children. David Masci explains, “Moreover, proponents contend, parents will not view genetically engineered offspring as consumer products but children to be loved and nurtured. “Parents will still be parents, and they’ll want to do everything they can to ensure that their children are happy,” says Lee Silver, a professor of molecular biology and public affairs at Princeton University” (428). They say that parents just want the best for their children no matter what it takes. I see it as they may think their child is imperfect no matter their reason for wanting to alter the
