“The IQ Generation”
At a critical point in the history of the United States and with the world confronted by economic turmoil, important leaders and individuals across the globe are looking towards our generation, Generation Y; to pull the world out of these troubled times. The key to our generation’s success in contributing positively to society is education. Education will guide these young individuals to success in monetary values and in contributions to humanity. People of the skilled labor force argue that the pressure of society on the young generation to obtain the highest level of educational achievement is hindering their growth. Education creates endless opportunities and spurs development and progression in society. Education and society are closely associated with each other when discussing Generation Y. To create a better understanding of the link between the two when characterizing Generation Y, education and society should be defined. Education is the act of acquiring general knowledge, the process of imparting particular knowledge, generally of preparing oneself intellectually for mature life, a degree. Society is a highly structured system of human organization for large-scale community living that normally furnishes protection, continuity, security, and a national identity for its members, the evolution of human society. In nitpicking the two definitions of education and society, one can see that education is one characteristic of an individual in society and each individual has his own particular role in contributing to the evolution of human society depending on his particular field of knowledge. Currently in the United States, parents stress the importance of education on their children. These children are Generation Y and they are pushed to accomplish the utmost accomplishments during their educational years. Children are not only pushed to achieve perfection in the classroom but parents also emphasis the importance of extracurricular activities.
