What is more, these individuals have a place in the community, they are treated with respect by the family and society. Unlike in our society where we only distinguished two genders, and those who does not fit into the norm of cultural concept, such as transgenders, are considered as deviate and treated with hostility and disapproves. ²I believe the consequence of cultural expectation has created gender stratification, that which backwash the unequal accessibility for man and woman, such as in status, wealth and position.
In the history of the United State, we have not have a female president in the country, by reason of woman generally do not hold higher power position in this society. I believe gender stratification echoed in the social construction of gender roles and stereotypes, because men are supposed to be able to provide for his family, for this reason man need to have jobs that pays well. All of these are the production of gender roles, which woman and man are supposed to only have one standard of "gender role" in the society. Yet, these roles and construction do not reflect on the reality, in reality, woman can become a doctor just as the man, and man can pursue a career in nursing, and father does not have to be the one or the only financial provider, and women are capable to the role of a mother and a career woman. I believe it should be an individual choice for whichever role they wish to be, how they would identify themselves should not be a concrete of conditions.
I believe the conditions of gender has created harmful effect and restriction on entire sex, for the reason that what if a women is better at the provider role, instead of the caretaker role? And the men is better at being a caretaker, rather than the provider? The biological definition of sex should not have define gender, gender itself is a reflection of cultural expectations, and gender system is a reflection of social patterns.
