A young boy in high school comes home after school and heads into the bathroom. The harsh words start to flood into his mind as he’s sitting on the bathroom floor, with his mothers pills in his hands wondering why is it so bad to be different. Why are these harsh words being said to him? All these words are being said to him because he is different than everyone else at school, because he is gay. Being gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender in our society is scary because you are judged and harassed by other people because of who you are. No one should have to be afraid of being gay in school because of who you are. Students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender should have the freedom to express themselves and be able to enjoy school instead of being harassed by other students and even teachers. At schools all over the nation there are reports of LGBT students being harassed but nothing is being done to stop the harassment. In Maryland high schools the students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender constantly hear derogatory remarks and are often verbally, physically and sexually harassed and assaulted by their classmates. Many of these students have been excluded from activities and have had their property damaged or stolen from them for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender.
