Gangs within the System

Prison is a system that was made to make inmates better. Since the start of prisons, gangs have become a big part. Gangs fight in order to dominate and run everything. It is a constant battle between them. Who you are affiliated with says a lot. Gangs in prison are more than just a group of men killing each other , It is more family oriented . Prison gangs were originally formed by inmates as a means to protect themselves from other inmates. Throughout the years, prison gangs have evolved from a group that provides protection to its members, to criminal entities involved in prostitution, assaults, drugs and murder. Gangs are the way of life in prison. Being a part of a gang is like having a family. Gang members become loyal to the gang and would never turn their back on it. Once an inmate becomes a part of a gang, they are for a lifetime. In the court yard, it is easy to spot the various gangs. There is a lot of fighting associated with the gangs. You have to be willing to do almost anything to gain respect. Every fight has a purpose, but most fights are gang related. In prison, fighting becomes the way of life. People join gangs in order to have protection. A person would have a hard time surviving without becoming a part of some gang. Charles Philon is a part of a gang but in the Ross Correction there are only two other members. They are weak so other gangs target them. Essentially, he is a gang member with no gang. This is not good due to the fact that basically no one likes him and will pick fights with him. He keeps catching cases, which is making in the end is going to hurt him. He is getting trapped in the system. The Bloods are one of the dominating gangs in the Ross Correction. They have strength in numbers. They are known for extortion, taking things from other people by force. The Hispanics are known for dealing drugs and making weapons. There are only two
