Reception staffs are trained to act in an emergency of a fire, bomb threat, assaults, accidents and sickness of guests.

Fire evacuation training is given to front office staff. Fire marshals are named and their roles and responsibilities are specified how to act in a fire threat.

First aid training is a legal requirement to give initial basic first aid in case of a accident until paramedic arrive.

Legal frame work of front of house operation

Some of the front of house operations comes under legal requirement and hotel has to abide law on certain areas covered by legal frame work. Generally all hotels have to abide these laws and following are some of the laws under which Marriot hotel operates.

1. Data Protection act 1998

All the information about guests and their credit card details have to be kept in secure a place. Only staff should have accesses to those details and should be shredded when it is going to be disposed after certain time period.

▪ Understanding between front office and housekeeping is very important to communicate valuable information is acquired by front office staff on the desk that can be used to understand guest needs so better service can be given.liason with other departments such as housekeeping is important on guest requests such as,

a) If guest allergic to feather pillows, housekeeping should made aware of the guest request. If this is not properly communicated guest can fall ill and will not be staying in that hotel again. b) House keeping should be made aware if family rooms need extra pillows and cots.

▪ Rooms are managed and allocated by front desk for customer needs this should be always communicated with house keeping to have proper room type is ready always without a delay. Most of the time front house and housekeeping share the same computerised system and there is less miscommunication among department.
