First of all, having a true friendship is very important because it can be hard on someone to go throughout life without someone else there to talk to or to protect them, this is talked about mostly by the character Slim the stable buck, but it is also talked about by George and Lennie. George and Lennie have had many ups and downs in their relationship for instance, Lennie has killed the mice, the puppy and most importantly killing the two women. George and Lennie as you can see have had a rough relationship but in some way they still stuck together. George could've just left lennie but he decided to stay with him because he knew he couldn’t take care of himself. Lennie has drove George to his last nerve many times in their friendship by doing these things, George has to come to a conclusion at the end of the book and has to do what was the best for the both of them and that was Lennie's death. In addition, George and Lennie have always been with each other; there’s never a moment that these two guys aren’t together, it be in the bunkhouse or outside working.Steinbeck shows us how often Lennie gets on George’s nerves when he writes,” ..God a’mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy. I could get a job an’ work, an’ no trouble…. .. An’ whatta I got, I got you !, You can’t keep a job and you lose me ever’ job I get”( pg.11). When George says this to Lennie he talks about how if he didn’t take Lennie under his wing that he could be doing all these things with the money he makes, but he can’t because he has to take care of Lennie and try to keep him out of trouble.
