In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, there is a lot of personal freedoms. The freedoms people in the community do not get anymore are reasonable but some are not. The examples I thought made a big difference in the community of Utopia. Examples like , choice in family, your job, and the way you get around the community.
The first freedom is the freedom to choose your family unit, who you can marry, and how many children you choose. There could be a reasonable excuse for how many children you are allowed to have in a family unit, in the community they are only allowed to have two children a boy and a girl. I agree with this decision, if parents had the choice of how many children they want the community will overpopulate, there won't be enough food, or big enough houses, and not enough jobs for each child. Now for your spouse, you get paired with someone not of your choosing. There reasoning why the elders made that decision, the person you might have wanted to choose could have been the wrong person for you which can lead to divorce.

The book The Giver does not state the fact why the people cannot drive or a different way of getting around. There's one reason which is polluting the community. The elders want the community to be healthy and safe and so without gas a electronic objects like that keep the community clean. In the book it tells us that one of the laws is you cannot fly a plane over head of the community which supports the fact of pollution. Another reason could be space, if the people in the community would drive there would have to be roads which takes up room and if they are taking up room they would have to expand or add on to the
